i read it years ago and loved the concept...letter writing now consists of me printing out any email messages from my kids or friends - those are my letters...my grandmothers both lived in florida and i grew up in smyrna, ga...where we livd at the dairy queen on south cobb drive...anyway, one grandmother would repot weekly about my grandfather's fishing successes, in long hand, while my other grandmother typed hers and talked about her latest boarder to run out on her without paying for his room...she was a widow, like me, and i still can't believe the peril she put herself in every day...of ourse she had raised four boys with a broom handy, so florida crackers didn't faze her....i don't know who threw them all away, lord knows my father saved every bank statement and check ever written since 1943...loved your book, live in nashville and have managed to miss evey apperance you've made, including your most recnt at the library...i'm my grandson's nanny for now and feel like i'm 27 again, housebound but love those hugs...long story, but now that i've found your blog, i guess i can track you down like a dog and finally meet you!!! best wishes on planning that tour!!suzanne brunson, brentwood tn.

Chattanooga? huh... A trailer park on set the side of Signal Mountain was the inspiration for my novel 'White Trash In A Trailer Park'. Although I set the park in West TN in the book. I visited kin-folk in that park one summer and the fact that it was located on the side of a mountain stuck with me over the years. (As if trailers don't already have challenges.. and now gravity?)

I'm sure we'll have that coffee in Chattanooga.... Funny, we live a few miles apart here in Nashville but will probably meet up two hours away. (I still have relatives in the Chattanooga area but they've managed to graduate to good old brick and wood structures.) Hope the move is smooth!

I just read The Recipe Club and it's written in an epistolary fashion too. Sorry about the paint accident!

Wow! Every time the voices of doubt try to gain a foothold in my brain, someone writes or post something that spurs me forward. While I am by no means an accomplished writer, there are thoughts and stories within me that are screaming for release. Because of being being overcome by tax returns and financial aid submissions I have not blogged in the past couple of days. Just as I'm wondering "does it really matter if I post today?" I find your posts about letters!

Letter writing is one of the most rewarding tasks I do each week, both in sending and receiving. I actually blogged about letters on February 2nd.

I started writing letters on a regular basis after reading "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society." Regular written correspondence with my husband's 82 year old aunt has brought us even closer in a relationship that is more mother/daughter than aunt/niece-in-law. She no longer cares to receive by-monthly phone calls, she is waiting for her letter. I average two a week to her. She returns two a month to me. Should I fall behind in my schedule to her, I am quickly called to task by her son who has picked up how important this communication is for her.

Thank you for the book suggestions and may we never forget that there is always someone in cyber-space who needs to read what we have to say.
